Tricky Words
What Are Tricky Words?
Tricky words are words which cannot be sounded out using our phonic knowledge because they have 'tricky' or 'irregular' parts to them.
Some examples of tricky words are said - the ai is making a short e sound / is - the s is making a z sound
We teach children to recognise these words as a whole word rather than trying to sound them out.
