Social Justice and Responsibility

At Chrishall, we empower our children to become agents of change—speaking out against injustice, engaging in charitable initiatives, and taking on leadership roles such as the Courageous Advocates Ambassadors and our Worship Team. Children are given a voice at our school and are taught to take responsibility for their actions and to contribute to the wellbeing of their communities, echoing the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Our school's vision 'Let your Light Shine' encourages children to think of others and act justly.  This is supported by our values of compassion, courage, creativity, citizenship and care. Children are encouraged to live out our school values both in and out of school.  To support with this, children are given a 'Conquering Chrishall' booklet which contains challenges that are linked to our values.  Many of the challenges inspire the children to protect our environment and help out in the community.  Making friendship bracelets to sell and raise money for Ukraine, making and selling lemonade to raise funds for 'Send My Friend to School', cutting their hair for the Princess Trust, doing litter picks are some of the challenges completed by children.

A few Initiatives include planting pollinator friendly plants, reducing the use of plastic in school to support World Oceans Day.  Following a visit to the Uttlesford foodbank, children were shocked to find out the reason only dry and tinned food could be donated to the foodbank is because not all families have cookers and fridges. Children wrote to our MP to share their views about every child being entitles to fresh food and that every home should have a fridge and cooker.

Children have found out about COP 29 and have listened to what Ed Millband said about looking after our environment.  After watching some UN children films, news broadcasts and reports on climate change to help them understand what was happening to our wonderful world, they learned about their role in being an agent of change now and in the future.  They wrote to the Energy secretary to ask for action and accountability.

Having already achieved the Archbishop of Canterbury's Young Leaders Award, we are now enjoying our Rights Respecting School work.  We are proud to have been awarded the Christian Aid's Global Neighbours Bronze Award and we are well underway with gathering our evidence for our Silver Award.

Courageous Advocates

Our Courageous Advocates are a group of children who are elected each year following a mini presentation.  The group meet for weekly breakfast meetings with Mrs Bratley.  The children have recently been working with the children at Rickling Primary School on the Uttlesford Net Zero project.  As part of our UN Rights Respecting School work, they have been exploring work around global passports.

See more about the work of the Courageous Advocates on their topic page.
