Our Church Of England school was formed by an amalgamation of two village primary schools, Elmdon and Chrishall. The Bishop of Chelmsford officially opened the current school buildings in 1973.
The school is set in a beautiful rural environment overlooking an extensive meadow. We have our own playing field, hard surface playground, wildlife area, productive garden and the use of an adventure playground and woodland area. The school has strong community links and is supported by an enthusiastic and committed Friends of Chrishall School Association. Governors, many of whom currently send or have sent children to the school, visit frequently and take a very active interest in every aspect of the work of the school. Our children are encouraged to feel a sense of belonging to the ‘school family‘ and of being cared for, valued and involved in that ‘family’.
Registered as an ‘Eco School’, we achieved the Silver award in 2010 and are currently working towards the prestigious Green Flag award, which symbolises excellence in the field of environmental activity.
There are four teaching classrooms, a shared tiled area for artwork and a small music room. The school hall is used for assemblies, music, P.E., drama and school meals. There is a computer suite and library in the centre of the school and we also have a conservatory for use by the reception class and for small group work. The teaching staff work closely together as a team, planning co-operatively, contributing to monitoring and evaluation, taking curriculum responsibility in one or more areas and supporting each other.
The school operates an Early Years Admission Policy. The number of children intended to admit is 15 per year group. The organisation of year groups within classes is flexible depending on the number of children within each year group. This is re-viewed annually.
Our school values its position within the Parish of The Icknield Way Villages. The parish rector visits the school in a pastoral role, serves as a governor and contributes to assemblies and R.E.
