History
Welcome to the history blog
This Blog has been started following the teaching of a Local History Project last year, in which many of the children became actively interested in History and finding out more about their local community. Initially, their investigation was into the origins of the village as found in the Doomsday book, local war heroes and possible family connections to the war, but then took a sudden turn when a local family knocked down a garage and discovered some old bottles which local historian/archivist Rosmarie Gant was able to identify as indigestion bottles. In response to the children's continued enthusiam we have created this blog and the attached virtual museum where the children's finds will all be catalogued by the children who will receive training in a lunchtime history club open to all that wish to join . At the momemt it is restricted to four children that will later be the club Ambassadors and train future children.
This week in Lowry Class budding archaeologists have been sharing their finds from the Easter break.
There have been some amazing items and I am really pleased to see how involved the other children are in the debate surrounding possible origins and uses of items.

This week, there has been much excitement in Potter Class, as children in Reception brought the Fire of London to life in Forest School. First, the children made a bakery and placed a 'loaf' inside. Next, Mrs Bicknell set light to it! The children then watched as the fire quickly took hold. After that, the children knew just what to do and organised themselves (with a bit of help from adults!) into a line which stretched from the pond (Thames) to the fire (Bakery in Pudding Lane) armed with buckets of water which they quickly and sensibly passed from one to another.
Lots of fun was had by everyone and the fire safely put out. Hurrah for Reception!
