Big congratulations to Ferris and his football team for their recent football achievements. At the Abbey Cup Champions, they won, along with winning the London Colney Tournament and also being the winners at the Cambridgeshire Mini-Soccer Cup Champions where they beat Bar Hill in the final with a 8-0 win.
Please see these images of the water safety code, beach flags and first aid symbol that the children may see at the beach
Today, some of the KS1 children took part in a special mini Commonwealth Games sports event at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre in Saffron Walden. Representatives from our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes made up team 'Australia' and tried their hand at a variety of throwing, catching, bouncing and balancing activities. All of our wonderful children took part with real enthusiasm, growing in confidence throughout the morning as they tried new activities. It was a real pleasure to see their beaming faces supporting each other!
Apologies for a few blurred photos, the children were moving so fast it was difficult to keep up!
Two teams from Class Newton attended a High Five Netball tournament at JFAN. Both teams played really well and our yellow team came joint first with Farnham.
A team attended a bigger tournament at SWCHS and again played really well. They won their group and played the winner of the other group. They came second out of the whole tournament and should be super proud of their performance. Well done players and a big thank you to Millie and her team of helpers for coaching the children at netball club.
Back at school, netball club is enjoyed by children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Our Reception and Key Stage One children loved bringing their scooters into school for a scooter workshop. Great listening skills were displayed, along with great control with their scooters.
Throughout the Autumn Term, year five and six children have enjoyed attending hockey training sessions at JFAN after school each Friday. Spring Term sessions have been matches against other schools. As we have had so many children playing hockey, we have been able to have two teams. We also took part a team of players from the class to attend a hockey tournament. What a strong group of players we've had. It's great that so many of the children attend a hockey club out of school.
Our year three and four children thoroughly enjoyed their archery tournament.
Mikki Rom, from ROM Theatre Academy joined Class Newton for a themed war time dance workshop.
Schools came together for a cross country event at Chrishall. It was great to see children supporting each other. What a glorious morning we had in the sunshine.
Our year three and four children enjoying some tag rugby in their PE lesson with All for Sport.
Yoga with the lovely Mrs Stevens as part of our Mental Health and Wellbeing work.
In the Autumn Term, our Key Stage Two girls took part in a fun football festivall which we hosted at Chrishall. Girls had lots of fun and developed some great football skills throughout the morning.
Children are enjoying our Activall Board at playtimes.
A few weeks ago, two teams from Class Newton children attended a High Five netball tournament at JFAN. Thankfully the rain held off until we were on our way back to Chrishall. Both our blue and yellow teams played really well and demonstrated some great team work between them. Each team played 6 mini matches, with 5 points being awarded for a win, 3 for a draw and 1 for a loss. As it turned out to be a tie break between Farnham and Chrishall’s Yellow Team for first place, it went to number of goals scored. This turned out to be the same, so both teams came joint first. Congratulations Chrishall! The Sports Ambassadors commented on how much everyone enjoyed the netball experience and how it was good to play friendly matches with children from other schools. At first they were not sure about the positions rotating as they wanted to play a position that they were strongest at, but at the end of the game they discovered that they enjoyed playing in different positions and thought this was fair.
Back at school, Key Stage Two children are loving their netball club sessions after school each Thursday.
Our reception children have been enjoying developing their cricket skills.
Lots of tennis skills were being developed with Miss Dunlop from JFAN as children took part in a virtual tennis competition.

This term, we're going to be busy preparing for different virtual competitions including: football skills, athletics, cheerleading and gymnastics. We're also taking part in some exciting skipping challenges. On Thursday, our reception, year one and year two had a great time when they took part in a scooter workshop.
Lisa Dunlop worked with Key Stage Two children in the week to begin the athletics work for the competition.
Following the success of our summer term archery activities, we have used some of our sports premium funding to buy a class set of archery equipment which we are looking forward to using.
We have been super impressed with how active many of the children have been throughout the pandemic. Bike and scooter rides, country walks, daily PE work outs with Joe Wicks and taking part in yoga sessions have been popular activities that lots of children have been active with. A big congratulations to all the children who have learnt to ride a bike during this time.
With us not being able to have our normal sport's day at school, we took part in a virtual sport's day ... here are a few of the pictures of the children in action.
"Hi Yellow Team,
I know it is very different to do the games at home this year but I also know that it will be soooo fun so go out and get sporty. When you do, here is something to think about - get outside, get sporty and win those points because I know that once you have done an activity you will feel sooooo proud of yourself!
It might be hard at first because of the exhausting heat of the summer and it is going to get hotter but when you're out there doing the really fun RAINBOW GAMES, you will forget the heat and will just have fun. Another thing to think about is - it's not about getting more points than your friends or winning it's about having lots and lots of fun whether you're at home or at school.
Please remember to send Mrs Bratley some pics on the DB primary and let her know how you're getting on. I know this will be lots of fun.
I hope this will encourage you to continue in your RANBOW GAME activities and training. Have fun!!!
From your yellow team captain and sports ambassador, Tilly "
If you don't know what team you are in, don't worry, you will be told when you are in school.

Fitness Videos
We have created in partnership with Complete P.E. 3 fitness videos that focus on active workouts keeping children moving, which ultimately keeps them fit and health. The links for the cardio, strength and flexibility workouts are below.
Strength Work Out
Fitness Work Out
Flexibility Work Out
On Friday 13th March, 22 children from Years 3,4,5 and 6 went to Carver Barracks for the Cross Country 2nd heat. While the Year 3/4 ran 2/3 of a mile (1km), which was 2 laps of the field, Years 5/6 had to run a mile (1.6km). It was very tiring, but everyone tried their best and completed the course well. We were very pleased it wasn't raining!
The Year 6 girls took part in a High 5s Netball afternoon this week, hosted by Mrs Dunlop at JFAN. Lots of learning opportunities to put the drills learned into PE into practice and a great opportunity for the girls to work together as teams.
Fitness club has been running this half term. Each session we have focussed on a different set of skills- this week was reflexes and reactions. The session start with a very competive circuit of bean-bag air hockey.
Swimming Gala
On Wednesday the 15th of January, some KS2 children attended the annual swimming gala at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre. We competed in different events including: the medley relay; freestyle relay and 25 metre or 50 metre single events. Even though, for some people, it was terrifying,we all had heaps and heaps of fun. Our favourite part was when we were cheering on our friends when they were racing and being in the water doing what we love.
Year 3 and 4 came an astonishing 2nd and year 5 and 6 also came 2nd. The year 6 girls ,who have taken part over the years, will definitely miss this amazing experience, as it was their last ever swimming gala they will ever do representing Chrishall Primary School. We all did extemely well in all our races. Most people received at least one certificate but the judging was very harsh. The year 6 all agreed that they finished their last swimming gala with Chrishall on a high note and in style.
Class Newton are straight back into their learning this week, becoming quest seekers as we follow the two main characters through the Jaguar Stones: Book 1: Middleworld. The children have been introduced to Max- not a very inspiring hero at the moment- and the ever so cool character of Lola. We will be using this text to inspire the creation of quest stories, which the children will present through stop frame animation over the next couple of months. The children will also be learning about the Mayan culture to enable them to develop the stories steeped in legend and mystery.
The children used maps and atlases to identify the countries of Mesoamerica adn which modern day countries formed the Mayan Civilisation. They also found out the meaning of the word civilisation and what made the Maya so civilised.
Using their new knowledge and persuasive language, they wrote letter to Max to persuade him to learn more about the Mayan culture.
Please look at the Experience Outcome, Home Learning and Knowledge organiser tabs for more information.
?It was the first fitness club for our 'Make a Change' SMSC theme. Great to see lots of fun (and aerobic activity).
DODGE BALL Sports Leaders’ report y Year 6 and 5 leaders.
On Wednesday 13th November 2019, Class Newton took part in a dodge ball tournament at JFAN and we were very successful. We had a lot of fun and luckily, the black team (Team A), managed to go through to the finals. We will play on Wednesday 20th November. We hope they will do well.
On Wednesday 20th November, Team A, took part in the Dodgeball Tournament and played extremely well. Over all they came 10th out of 16 other competitive schools, with lots of schools tying for positions.
The team played well together and were organised and when we had to choose subs. They all took it in turns and were fair. They had lots of fun when playing, and we hope Class Newton will have another chance to play in a dodgeball tournament again before the Year 6s leave. Our star players were chosen because one was always willing to give up all her energy on court and the other was determined to try his best and give it his all to try a win. Class Newton can’t want for the next tournament.
On Wednesday, 2 teams from Chrishall took part in the Uttlesford boccia and kurling tournament at Lord Butler leisure centre. Both games required precision and tactics. Each team performed brilliantly and we were delighted when the team from Class Lowry won a silver medal in boccia. The teams also enjoyed a fun breaktime having a go on the trampoline.
Well done to everyone involved.

In September, girls from class Newton were invtied to take part in the Girls Football Festival at JFAN as part of the Uttlesford Schools' Sports Partnership. The girls took part in skills and drills to build confidence on the ball and techniques to improve control and enjoyment.
Comments 1Congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 footballers- learning from the lessons of last weeks's match against a very skilful St Mary's Stansted team- this week saw a much more cohesive performance away at Great Chesterford, with clear attacking opportunities and committed defensive strength. Goals came from four of the team and confidence from everyone. Final score 6-1 to Chrishall.
KS2 Athletics event at Carver Barracks
There were a total of 28 children that represented the school at the KS2 athletics at Carver Barracks. There were sprint, middle distance and relay races on the track as well as field events including: holwer, high jump, standing long jump and turbo javelin. There were lots of certificates for those that took part.
Year 3/4 fininshed 4th whilst Year 5/6 finished 3rd. We came 4th overall.
The children were fantastic and did the school proud.
Girls relay team also beat the boys!!
On Thursday 2nd of May Newton girls played a football match against Great Chesterford. It was a lucky win for Chrishall, the score came at 4-0. Our goal keeper, Bethan, managed to save an uncountable amount of close goals. Also our defenders, Megan and Hetty, were able to move the ball up pasted the Centre of the football pitch. Then we have our mid-fielders, Darcey, Rachel and Rosie, who were passing the ball up the pitch for our attacker, Chloe. We all listened to each other and passed to each other and because of this we managed to score our first goal. We had high hopes for the second half and these were realised. Now we are hoping to develop our skills for the next season; we would also like to invite some year 4 boys and girls to training as they will be able to come next season.
Reporters- Megan and Bethan
Last week, a team of year five and year six children were selected to play at a High Five netball tournament at SWCHS in Saffron Walden. Wearing the school's new netball kit and jackets, they looked really smart and were proud to be representing the school. Having arrived at the venue, the team had time for a quick bit of lunch, before playing their first three matches in the opening round. As Manuden was also participating, it was great to be able to cheer each other on during matches. With a few winning games behind them, the team grew in confidence and were able to really develop their netball skills throughout the tournament. Well Done Chrishall, a wonderful afternoon and sporting performance!
The school football team has been playing in a league over the past half term and has shown fantastic improvement in their team play and skill level. Our most recent opponent, Newport Primary, forfeited their match so we held a training session followed by a valuable practice match.
After a term of training with Gaynor the sport coach, three teams from Lowry went to JFAN to take part in a "Schools Family" Tag Rugby Event. The children showcased the skills they have been learning and showed great team work and stamina. Contragualtions to the Red Team on getting through to represent our class later in the term.
Following a term of hockey training every Friday after school at JFAN, children from Class Newton played their first hockey match against Farnham on Friday. For their first match, the children played amazingly well. Their performance demonstrated some great team work, with some high quality passing. Well Done everyone, a well deserved 0-0 score! Look forward to seeing what you can do in your next match!
Lowry Class are in preparation for the Y3/4 Tag Rugby tournament this half term. The sport's coach, Gaynor has been helping prepare the children for this exciting challenge. Good luck to all the three teams taking part.
